Career guidance
Are you figuring out what career to pursue? Or are you stuck in your career and want to explore new avenues, but don’t know where to start? You have come to the right place by visiting IWANTTHEWORLD.
Over the past 2 years I have embarked on a journey myself to evaluate my life and find new career directions. During this time I have consulted the most famous books, experts and blogs on career change and distilled the most practical advice. I established common themes for you to quickly start your trajectory of self-discovery, without becoming overwhelmed by information overload. It is my aim to present exercises which are easy to do and build upon your inner voice, without the distraction of details and lists.
Categories and recommended trajectory
The advice and exercises encompass the following categories:
- Find your purpose: what are your strengths and pervasive interests?
- Visualize your future: assess your current life, develop different career scenarios and assess their feasibility.
- Experiment: Find your way to a better career by trial-and-error, prototyping and consciously evaluating this journey, for example through journaling.
- Networking: Figure out where you wanna go and find the tribe of professionals that can help you get there.
- Job application: Get some advice on designing your CV, motivation letter and preparing for a job interview.
The blogposts are short and include a simple exercise. To get you started I would recommend to follow the sequence of topics as presented in the list. Starting with ‘1. Find your purpose’ and finishing with ‘5. Job application’. Each day you could read a blogpost and do the included exercise.
Exercises
As self-assessment is a non-linear creative process, I suggest that you take it easy when writing down your answers. You can always return to an exercise a week or a month later and benefit from flashes of insight that occured to you during that time.
Hopefully you find that the advantage of my approach is a clear and bite-sized career guidance trajectory. However, should you desire a more elaborate explanation of each advice, I have included in each blogpost the books or experts that you can turn to.
