4.2 What professionals do you connect with naturally?

Below you find a slightly modified excerpt taken from Bolles, R.N. (2014). What Color is Your Parachute? Berkley, CA. Ten Speed Press. Image by Penguin Random House.

The Party exercise

“The goal of this exercise is to figure out the kinds of people you like or don’t like working with. This could be either people who work at your company or people you interact with as part of your job, for example sales people from a client company. This is important because the people around you either give you energy or drain it. This is just part of nature so it is more convenient to work together with those that match your vibe.

Below is an aerial view of a room in which a party is taking place. At this party, people with the same or similar interests have (for some reason) all gathered in the same corner of the room – as described below.

Which corner of the room would you instinctively be drawn to, as the group of people you would most enjoy being with for the longest time?

If this group would leave the party, of the groups that remain now, which corner would you be drawn to the most?

And finally, what would be your third favorite group of people?

In conclusion, rating the different groups will give you a better idea who you will be compatible with in your professional life and what types of jobs to pursue.”
